A long time ago, an event called the Upheaval shattered the known world, scattering broken shards of land across the sky. This network of orbiting fragments became the new world, and humanity named it the Shattered Isles. The Shattered Isles are home to multiple settlements developed in relative isolation but linked together in recent years by the invention of the modern airship.
Slayers live in and hunt among the Shattered Isles, where islands float across an endless sky, moving and orbiting around each other. A place that’s just a short ship ride away today may be gone for years tomorrow. With each passing day comes the possibility of new discovery. With the advent of sky ships, explorers have struck out across the frontier in search of adventure, opportunity, or a fresh start.
The Behemoth Threat
Aether, the very thing keeping the islands afloat, also gives rise to the Behemoths. While Behemoths themselves are not a new threat, sightings of new and deadly Behemoths pour in each day, and reports indicate these mighty beasts are more aggressive and fearsome than anything seen before. The expansion into the frontier has been met with stronger and more ferocious monsters.
Behemoths draw their deadly power from the earth itself, swallowing up latent aether in the ground. A Behemoth will consume every resource and drop of aether, leaving nothing but lifeless husks. Whole settlements and the islands on which they rested have been destroyed by these creatures and their all-consuming hunger for the aether. When slain, a Behemoth will immediately begin to return to a state of pure aether.
Humanity & Slayers
Slayers have stood as the bulwark against the Behemoths' encroachment and savage attacks for generations. Slayers harness aether and use it to slay the Behemoths threatening the world. Using parts from Behemoths for creating weapons and armour, they build a deadly arsenal using the power of the Behemoths themselves.
As a frontier town, Ramsgate will be the first true line of defense between these powerful new Behemoths and humanity, attracting some of the world’s most skilled smiths, scholars, and fighters from across the Shattered Isles. While not much is known about the frontier’s furthest reaches, cartographers have mapped the zones beyond the Ram island chain: The Monstrous Verge, Skaldeskar Lowlands, Stormwall, Ostian Borderlands, The Reach, and The Crystal Sorrow.
Flora & Fauna
The Shattered Isles are home to a variety of different creatures, apart from Humans and the Behemoths. Several species of flora and valuable minerals can be found throughout the lush forests and barren landscapes of the Isles. Humanity has always coexisted peacefully with docile fauna like the Rams, among others. However, Slayers venturing out for hunts may encounter some hostile creatures like Gruk-gruks, Styxians, Vespers, etc. that may prove to be more than just an inconvenience.
